Sleep Support
At The Nurtured OT our sleep support is grounded in connection, compassion, and understanding. We recognise that sleep is not just a routine — it’s a relationship-based process that develops through safety, regulation, and trust.
Our approach is holistic, and we consider the whole family system — your child’s sensory needs, their emotional world, their (and your) attachment, your daily rhythms as a family, and your own wellbeing as a parent. We ensure that there are no underlying medical or health issues for poor or disrupted sleep, before we explore your child’s individual sleep needs. We don’t use “cry it out” or behavioural methods that separate parent and child. Instead, our work is guided by the principles of attunement and attachment, supporting you to respond to your child’s cues with confidence and calm in a way that both you and your child feel regulated, safe and supported. Your sleep support is individualised to meet your child’s needs, and is not a “one size fits all” approach to sleep.
Together, we create nurturing routines, regulate the nervous system, and build secure patterns of connection to help families find balance and rest in a way that feels right for them — because sleep is not taught; it’s supported.
Our sleep support team are paediatric occupational therapists who have done ongoing training in sleep support and who have also completed their paediatric and infant sleep certification.
Single Sleep Support Session
This session is designed for parents who are looking for general guidance, reassurance, or practical ideas to support their child’s sleep.
Before we meet, you’ll complete a detailed sleep intake form so we can understand your child’s current sleep patterns, routines, and any challenges your family may be experiencing. During the in person session (either online or in our office space in Byford), we will talk through your child’s sleep, explore what may be influencing their sleep, and discuss gentle, practical strategies focused on attunement and attachment that you can start using at home.
This session is a space to ask questions, troubleshoot challenges, and gain a clearer understanding of your child’s sleep needs. You will leave feeling more confident in understanding sleep development and your child’s sleep needs, and with a plan of where to start and what may help improve sleep for the whole family.
This option is ideal if you are looking for guidance and strategies to support you, and that you can implement at home but do not feel you need a full written sleep plan.
Comprehensive Sleep Support
This option provides a more in-depth support for families who would prefer a written personalised sleep plan along with their in person session.
Before we meet you’ll complete a detailed sleep intake form, which allows us to gain a thorough understanding of your child’s sleep history, routines, environment, and the challenges your family is currently experiencing with your little one’s sleep. We will then meet in person (either online or in our office in Byford) for a session to talk through your child’s sleep, what may be influencing their sleep, discuss your goals for sleep and discuss gentle, practical strategies focused on attunement and attachment that you can start using at home.
Following our session, you will receive a personalised written sleep plan outlining tailored recommendations and strategies designed specifically for your child and your family. This report provides clear, practical steps you can follow at home to support more restful sleep.
This option is helpful for families who would like a more structured plan and something they can refer back to as they implement changes.
