Parent Support Sessions
Parent support sessions provide a dedicated space for you to talk through what’s happening for your child and for you as a parent, and explore practical ways you can support your child at home — without your child needing to attend ongoing Occupational Therapy sessions. These support sessions can be once-off sessions, designed for parents who have questions, concerns, or would simply like guidance around their child’s development, behaviour, or daily routines but don’t require ongoing therapy support.
During a parent support session, we take time to understand your child, your family, and your needs. Together, we gently explore what’s going on, what’s feeling hard, and what might help — through a lens of regulation, sensory processing, attachment, and real-life parenting. You may want some help with something specific during these parenting sessions, however many parents also come along simply wanting ideas, reassurance, or a different perspective.
Some ways that we can provide support during these sessions include:
• Understanding your child’s sensory needs and how to best support their needs
• Managing big emotions and supporting emotional regulation
• Creating supportive daily routines and transitions
• Play ideas that build developmental skills
• Encouraging independence with tasks like dressing, feeding, or toileting
• Supporting social skills and engagement
• Preparing for transitions such as childcare or school
These sessions are collaborative, relaxed, and centred around your family’s needs. Our goal is to empower you with knowledge, help you feel more confident in understanding and supporting your child needs, and provide you with strategies that fit naturally into your home and daily life.
These sessions are able to take place online, or in our office space in Byford.
